Will I beable to get SSP or ESA?

I am off work today and tomorrow back on thursday morning.
However, I started with my sickness on saturday morning. I don't know if I can get SSP as although I have been sick for 5 days in a row I have no set working pattern and my rota is completely random week to week.
If I cannot get SSP due to this reason, would I beable to get ESA for the 5 days? I know I wouldn't get much but you only have to be off for 3 days for ESA and this includes weekends.

As you are still employed you would need to claim SSP not ESA.
SSP disregards the first 3 days of illness, but is payable from then.
You can only claim ESA after being on SSP for 28 weeks.0 -

or if u cant get ssp i thought.
problem being SSP only counts the days you have been off work sick. I have been sick since saturday but only today + tommorow are actual work sick days0 -
so if i have been unable to work from fri-wednesday. I normally earn £850 net not including overtime as this is variable. how much ssp will i receive0

You would only be considered for ESA if you did not qualify for SSP. The problem is that from what you have said you do qualify for SSP but proberbly none will be paid.
As I understand it you have been sick from Saturday to Wedenesday which is 5 days so a PIW has been formed which means SSP records will be kept and there may be a payment. You need to find out what your qualifying and non-qualifying days are, your payroll dept. or HR dept. should be able to tell you this. Qualifying days are often the days you would normally work but there may be an agreement that some other pattern is used. When you know the qualifying and non-qualifying days you can work out which if any you will get SSP for. First you will not be paid for any non-qualifying days, then the first three qualifying days are called waiting days and you do not get paid for those, if there are any qualifying days left after this you would get one day's SSP for each one. The current weekly SSP rate is £85.85 and this is divided by the number of qualifying days in the week to get a daily rate.
I am assuming that you have not been sick in the eight weeks before this sickness, if you have depending on the length of that sickness it could affect your current sickness entitlement.0 -
ESA is a lot more difficult to apply for than you seem to imagine, it means that you are not capable for any work (more than just a few days) and involves going to and passing medicals.
Your best bet is to apply for SSP for the days where you were required to work but unable to do so.0 -
Are you still going to your exam?0

You need to ask your payroll dept. or HR dept. what your qualifying days are, there should be an agreement for what counts as qualifying days for all employees.
Regarding claiming SSP if you have followed your employers' rules regarding sickness then you have claimed SSP and your employer should advise you if you failed to qualify provided that you were sick for at least four days.
Do not know what A/l is bur provided that you were sick, did no work, it will count for SSP. If however a payment was made at least equal to the daily SSP rate then no further payment would be due.
Regarding the start of sickness, your employer should ask you for the first day that you were sick and provided that you did no work on that day then that will be the first day of the SSP calculations. If however any work was done on that day then the next day will be the first day of SSP calculations.0
