Advice Needed - Buying A Car

Hi All,

After a litany of problems I have decided to sell my 04 Vectra which has been possibly the worst car I've ever owed.

I'm looking for a strong, reliable and fuel efficient car that's looks well and the Toyota Avensis catches my eye, particulary the car in the following link which also is within my price range (£2500), what are peoples views on the Avensis and does anyone recommend any other type of car?

Thanks in advance

It needed a new engine with less than 90k miles? How many miles has it done?

Was it really new or just a 2nd hand lump with less than 90k miles?

If it was a new engine fitted by toyota then worth a look. If not then keep looking.
Its not worth the bother. Obviously something about it when it needed a new engine.

Has it done 500,000 miles hence the 2nd hand engine?

I was more thinking about that specific model rather than car as the engine replacement put me off completely.

    Thanks again.

A dull car but no major faults.Designed by the french, built by the british.
  • Good solid reliable cars, top class dealers.

Couple of things to watch out for, some Diesels suffer with head gaskets, Toyota upped the warranty to about 5 or 7 years and 110k miles if i recall correctly.

Some petrols suffer with excessive oil consumption, again Toyota have been more than generous with long after warranty has expired new engines fitted FOC.

Not all of both will suffer, but sensible to get a well documented service history if poss, Toyota are always worth asking about goodwill whatever goes wrong..

    Not heard of anything else.

Toyota have unrivalled reliability and the highest reputation for customer care....my experience of their products agrees with both.

These cars just go on and on and on....

Not heard anyone who owns one to complain about reliability (unlike the VW owners whose cars always seem to be in for repairs).
