How far will you travel for a good primary school place?

Also, do the school times fit with your 3 year old's nursery? Will you have to drag the younger one along every time you do the school run (the novelty will wear off, I promise you!) What if the younger one is ill and can't come in the car - do you have friends/family that can help out if things go wrong?
From what you've said, I think I'd go for the school, but push to try to move nearer as soon as you can manage. I did it the opposite way - my oldest started primary school, but we moved to the other side of town (10-20 mins away) about two months later. We liked the school so she stayed there, but if I was doing it again, I'd think a lot harder about whether it was a good idea to move away.0 -
I wouldn't worry too much about the playdate issue at this point. They won't be playing out, having friends call independantly for several years yet. My youngest is 9 in yr 4 and the huge majority are not calling for each other to play or walk to school yet. That tends to change in years 5/6, by which time it sounds likely you'll have moved.
I would think about the illness aspect though. Not just in your youngest is ill, but if you are too, and what strategies you could put in place to get eldest to school and back. Consider your car too, can you couldn't afford to replace/repair it if it's off the road?0 -
My local primary is dire and I would die before my kids go there.
I leave my house at 8am. Get the bus and do a miles walk to get to school for 8:50.
Then I come home
Then I do the same in the afternoon.
All with the baby in the pram and 6 yr old dd
I am learning to drive which will make things easier but this is my sacrifice for a good school and yes it is worth it0 -

Thank you :A
After the past couple of weeks of stress and sorrow the last thing I wanted was to do a viewing (especially seen as the gas men have dug up the road outside our house and rain is pi**ing into my cellar) but I'm so glad I didn't put them off.
They were really nice people who knocked back on the door and told us 'we know what a tough time you've had and we don't want to put you under any pressure so take your time finding another house'
I'm ecstatic!! Although there's a long road to go yet as I've already found out!!0
