I just got my AA Breakdown cover renewal documents and the price has shot up from £13 to £34 monthly for the same level of cover (Breakdown Assistance, Home Start, Relay & Breakdown Repair cover). Even their online price for the same package for new customers is only £12.78. I questioned this huge increase and the best they could offer me was £25 (still a 100% increase in premiums). Needless to say, I put in my cancellation notice and will switch to some other service provider when the policy expires in 30 days time. They seem to pick random figures for the renewal and hope their loyal customers don't notice!

They have always agreed to match rivals online prices when I said I would cancel.

I'm interested in all things BRC since finding I had this cover without my knowledge. Put on around 2009. Kind of settlement with CEO but reduced by Head of Compliance. FSA need more evidence of similar behaviour. fktheobald@btinternet.com

Very common - even the RAC do this, which is one of the reasons they push folk onto DD, as it makes changing a chore. Well done for not letting them get away with it!

We always take out joint membership, roadside and relay, about £100 then £40 cash back through top cashback. The renewal is about £180, so we cancel, then just renew with the other one of us as a joint member each year, so about a £5 a month for both of us. The cashback has always tracked and paid.

  • Always worth calling to express disappointment at renewal price! You get a "thinking of leaving the AA" option when you call, just done this and had my charge reduced from £130 to £82 !!

    Just change provider each year.

    Simple enough.
