I don't want a recession. Neither will it make house prices fall.

Amusing to see posters change tact though, wanting worse news, so that rates stay low!

You're the person who revels in bad news, I'm simply 'rolling with the punches' and making lemonade from lemons.

Why do you only post negative news? We never did get to the bottom of that as you seemed to be avoiding the question and ghosting out of the discussion when it was raised.

What can be positive about the current situation? It is some others that post false-positives which can mislead. Personally I'd rather hear some accurate analysis, as opposed to spin....

You need to ask yourself where we are. You also need to define positive and negative.

Have the positive news stories helped our plight or indeed, altered the data and become true? Have we seen all the positive news around actually blossom into real world figures? No.

Have the negative news stories generally blossomed into becoming real world data? Yes.

Rather than whinging that negative news stories are posted, I'd rather look at them as reality.

Just how many times have I been accused of doom mongering should I post up a warning of a double dip? You;ve done it yourself. Yet here we are, not glowing in the green shoots, but in the double dip. How many times have you tried to beat me down for warning of higher inflation? Yet here we are STILL with higher inflation.

I post, mainly, what I believe to be realisitic articles. Positive or negative doesn't come into it in my mind.

Positive stories are OK, but experience shows they are just masking reality. many people need that mask, I'll agree.

That's a lot of words to say nothing. Are you seriously claiming that there is no positive news anywhere at all and that's the only reason you never post any?

    Really? :rotfl:

Positive and negative news blah blah blah. It's pretty difficult to argue, against the backdrop of a shrinking economy, that the net balance of positive and negative news comes out as anything other than negative overall. Unless you think that a shrinking economy is good news of course.
  • The numbers can be made to say whatever governments want, but if you ask around the world what the general feeling is, then most would say something is wrong. We are in more than a recession this time.

    I am a bit suprised.

However what is interesting is how muc impact a 'ronding error' may have through the psychological effects of media reports etc. Q3 is almost certain to be down now and with stubborn (imported, mostly on essentials) inflation and a falling money supply we are back in uncharted territory.

The day off for the Silver Jubilee should rubber stamp that, the glory of gold was also evidenced the last time we had one of those Silver things.
The Klondike gold rush began in July of 1897 when two shipsdocked in San Francisco and Seattle carrying miners returning from the Yukon with bags of gold. The press was alerted and papers carried the story to the masses.
