Just a short story

Eldest daughter left a Laptop on Birmingham railway station two weeks ago

But because we had installed

http://preyproject.com/ yesterday when the laptop was connected by the scumbag to the internet , we found out his name / address and ( via webcam) a picture of him using said laptop.
Phone call to the police who went and knocked on his door 10 pm last night. Still wearing his distictive red t shirt , he was arrested , Lap top now back into police hands.

I urge everyone to check out Preyproject, its a FREE app that could help to return a missing laptop ............ or phone etc.

Ps yes this is an advert , But the app works.

We have this installed on all 3 of our family laptops! Obviously hope we never have to use it but it's good to hear it works.

How could the application determine the name/address of the thief, at best all it could get would be his current IP address? There is no way as a private individual you could turn this into a name/address without official intervention...

Sorry , but WE emailed the location of the lap top to the police ( well in truth it was a block of flats ) which is about 250 miles from our home.As I stated , name address and photo ,

IT seems to work with google and locating ip/wifi; not sure, want to find out for definite.

I always wonder with this software if it's better to leave no password on a device to ensure that it will always be activated. Like log in password, it just loads up and boots, then they can just connect or whatever, but would be too hesitant to actually do that, on the phone for example.

Just hope by the time the police are finnished with the laptop its actually still got some value left - they can take an almighty long time to return property to the rightful owner.
[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

They have assured me that they will get it back to us very soon. Not until the laptop is returned to my daughter can she then make a statement confirming that 1) its her lap top and 2) she had not given ' Terry' permission to have/use it.
