Transferring euros into UK account

Hi all,

I have about 3000 euros which I need to send back to the UK from Germany at some point in the near future. My German bank says it's free to send the euros over, and Santander said it won't charge to receive them into the account - it will just convert and deposit them in sterling. Being a suspicious person, this sounds far too easy and good to be true. Will Santander hit me with the worst exchange rate in the world for a lack of a fee? And could other accepting UK accounts be better? I have current accounts with Santander, Natwest and Metro Bank and it doesn't really matter which the money goes into.

Thanks :)
