Car Hire recommendations for Naples Airport, Italy?

Will be flying into Naples in May for a week with the better half. Will be staying on the Amalfi Coast whilst we scope out potential locations for our wedding.

Has anyone got any recommendations for car hire from the airport?

Are you wise, the drivers are crazy! Was there on holiday last summer and would def not recommend driving.

Having been twice in the area on holiday ( stayed in Ravello, travelled all over to Naples, Capri, along Amalfi coat, Pompeii, Vesuvius etc ) - please don't hire a car! Very narrow, winding roads, busy with idiosyncratic driving by the locals!!! ( This was October too, imagine May would be even worse). Parking also very difficult and very expensive. Public transport is very reliable, frequent and cheap, and you can manage using it even if you can't speak any Italian ( though it always helps ;) ). BTW what a wonderful location for your wedding, you couldn't have chosen anywhere better IMHO.

Spook1210, don't despair! We went on holiday in this area too and, yes, the Italians do drive like maniacs but if you are a sensible and relatively confident driver you will be OK.

Rosy is absolutely right about parking though, it is a nightmare, and you would probably enjoy the scenery (not to mention the wine) a lot more if you're not driving. :):)

We hired our car through Holiday Autos, ended up with a local firm but I can't remember the name I'm afraid. Picking the car up was an absolute nightmare in very stereotypical Italian style - over an hour waiting in the sweltering heat with a year-old-baby while lots of people shouted very loudly at each other and looked very busy while not actually doing anything!

It *is* an amazing location, I hope you find a beautiful place :)

I agree with spiddy, I think the words "confident driver" are most important. You need to be able to deal with "aggressive" driving. If you're happy with that you should be OK.

Hired a car at Naples airport in October. Had none of the above problems re collection. Used Hertz, who were the cheapest. Both pick up - minibus to car parking area and return - minibus back to airport very quick. I hired a Ford Focus estate for two adults and two children. HOWEVER they ARE totally 'different' drivers to what you are used to. It seems everybody overtakes onto oncoming traffic, round bends, etc., if you aren't going at least double the actual speed limit you are considered slow! As long as you are sensible you should be ok. Get as much CDW as you can as there are very few cars without dents!:rotfl:
