Retraining?

I am currently in the support group of ESA. I am due to have an op on the 25th May for a hip replacement. I was asked to go into the hospital today to be a case study and answer questions for 1st year students. My surgeon hinted that I may not be able to return to my former job which was a carer. So my question is if I'm not able to do this job will I be retrained when it's time for me to go back to work?

Are you asking if your employer will give you different duties? If so, there is an employment forum who can tell you your rights.

Or are you asking whether the job centre or similar body has vocational training schemes for those who can no longer work in the same role? If so, I've not really heard of anything other than basic courses (literacy/numeracy) or work experience schemes for the long term unemployed but other members can give you pointers on this?

I'm am no longer employed as I was dismissed due to ill health. The only jobs I've had are working in a nightclub, shop work and care work all jobs that standing and walking So I would be looking to retrain.

You could make an appointment for adult careers advice who'll be able to advise you about what courses an training opportunities might be available to you.
