Excessive Gas Usage

Hi,

I've recently moved in to a four bedroom Victorian house in central Birmingham and have been getting some pretty extortionate gas bills. To get to the bottom of what's happening I took a meter reading about 10 days ago and another today and was able to work out I've used 2122 kWh over the 10 days - roughly 212 kWh per day.

I've also worked out that at my current prices this translates to a spend of about £300 per month.

Given we are in April, does this sound like an exaggerated amount? At the moment the heating is on a timer and on from the hours of 6:00 to 9:00 and 17:00 to 23:30. On weekends it's on for longer, perhaps as much as from 6:00 to 14:00 and then again from 17:00 to 23:30. Am I trying to keep the place too warm and that's what's causing the spend or should I look at something being wrong with the boiler/system?

So you have read the meter units - what rate are you using to convert these to Kwh?

If it's a metric meter marked m3 on the front, each meter unit converts to appx. 11.2Kwh
If it's an Imperial meter marked ft3 on the front, each meter unit converts to appx. 31.5 Kwh

Best to check the meter and what the conversion is on the bills, as it's not unknown for Suppliers to get it the wrong way round
