So, should I be excited that money is coming back to me

No. The odds are they will use it against the amount written off. Some cases do happen to pay out but I wouldnt get excited yet. Most will go against the money you didnt pay.

ahh ok. I will hold back until and if I get a cheque. I actually called the debt company earlier asking for the balance and they didn't mention anything about it. Oh, I don't know. I guess either way it goes is a win win but I would rather have the money and then fight with the debt collectors to get the outstaning figure reduced due to the PPI owed. Thanks again everyone.

absolutely and had the op used a claims company in this case they could end up with no money being paid to them as it goes to the debt but the claims company billing them for x% of the amount paid to clear the debt.

Wow, that's shocking. So glad I didn't . Thanks to these forums, you get the confidence to do it yourself and it was very easy.

Hopefully other people with my situation have read this and DON'T got to any claims company for that sole reason.

    Sarah,

Did you ever receive your cheque, just curious as I am in a similar position?

My debt was sold to another agency many years ago, including the outstanding mis-sold PPI monies and I too have been told to expect to receive a cheque in the next ten to fifteen days.
