the internal 56k dial-up modem.....

I'm currently on 10Mb BB with Virgin media, is it ok if i remove the dial-up modem from my PC's motherboard thing to make way for another 1 or 2 components?

or will removing it have any negative effect on my PC's running?

Does anyone still use their 56k dial-up modem? just like the floppy disk and its floppy disk drive have become pretty much extinct from new PC's i'm sure the dial-up modem will follow soon?

Thanks

No problems removing it, only really of any use as an emergency back-up if/when BB is temporally unavailable.

No, it's not the end for 'old' modems. As well as broadband (cable), I still have two(!) 56k modems - an external one that I use for faxing and an internal one that has caller display facilities which flashes up Outlook contact details when someone phones. I should probably get rid of the external one, but it works, doesn't take up any slots (only the 'old' serial port), & I can't be bothered to configure the internal one to send faxes as well :-)
  • i used to work at comet part time until a few months ago and yes just like floppy disk drives none of the new computers we sold came with 56k modems. although we did sell them as seperate internal upgrade (then again they sell floppys like that too) perhaps it is the end!
