Vent at shoe zone.

Youngest son (13) comes home from school yesterday and first thing he says is Mum I need new shoes?? I'm gobsmacked as I only brought them during the easter holidays and he'd worn for a grand total of six days.
His right shoe has split all between the sole and the upper on one side and the other side is starting to split. His left shoe is also starting to split.
So after much searching I find the receipt, and off we go.
Get to the shop and explain to assisstant the problem.
She examines the receipt and says oooo they were clearance we dont refund on clearance!!! So I reply but they're faulty?? what does it matter what section they came from if they're faulty?? But we dont refund on clearance she repeats
I'll have to ask my manager. Luckly he walks back into the shop at that point munching his kfc. She asks him. He scruntinses the receipt, while she keeps repeating we dont refund on clearnace do we???
He then asks me which bit of the shops did you get them from??
I ask does it matter they're faulty???
Yes he replies We dont refund on clearance!!!!!
By this point am starting to get annoyed, BUT bite my tongue.
I again say whether they are clearance or not they are faulty. He has only worn them for six days and surely clearance or not they should last longer.
Manager gives a huge dramatic sigh and says well I'll refund you just this once as I dont want an arguement??
Ummm not once did i raise my voice nor did I show how cross I was.
And surely I was right clearance or not if the product is faulty I am entitled to refund or replacement?
I did get my refund and voted with my feet and brought DS shoes elsewhere.

I had issues with refunds/ exchanges with them too.
Took a pair of boots back after only a few weeks wear as they were splitting (no receipt but I was happy to exchange). sales assistant refused EVENTUALLY manager agreed.
Less then a month later took the next pair back with the same fault to be told there had been a recall on them (hmm how come they are still sat on your shelves??) but got a refund no problems. Went elsewhere for new boots.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -

You might infer that I think they should only last a few days but I didn't say that and it would be ridiculous thing for anyone to say. The OP is right to vent and right to get a refund then choose to shop elsewhere.
I don't know which one shoe zone is, but there's a shop near me that I think might be it which always smells of plastic. It was just a question.0 -

thats the shops logo. was just annoyed that he was implying he was doing me a favour by refunding me!! Also didn't help he continued to slurp and munch his KFC while talking to me.
Yes they do sell cheap shoes, but not had them fail this fast before.0 -
Thanks shelldean, well done on standing your ground.0

You have a right to an exchange or I think a refund as they're not fit for purpose, and this is regardless of whether they cost 1p in their sale. Sadly he doesn't know his consumer law. You could write to head office to complain? It really is the worst shop in the world, I get high off the fumes from all the plastic and rubber just walking past there.0

If goods are not fit for the intended purpose a refund is the correct solution. My DC used to be really heavy on shoes but they lasted a lot longer than 6 days!
In my small defence of Shoe Zone - and I have no connection with them whatsoever - I've bought shoes from there for the past few years. I only buy leather, they do a good range of wider fittings and the inners are cushioned and very comfortable. I've been fortunate to have only good shoes from there, but if any of them became unfit for wear after such a short time I'd be back complaining too.0
