Asbestos disposal

How about you phone snotty lady again saying the builder put the asbestos sheets back where they came from. You removed them again. Now could she please advise re disposal? And make sure you've got her name so you can complain when she swears at you over the phone.0

Definitely the local tip. I work for a local authority and all that happens is a customer rings us for a permit to take the asbestos to a site that accepts asbestos. It doesn't matter who removes it but it is only for limited quantities. For sheets of asbestos it's a maximum of 5 for our authority. There is a small charge tat is payable at the site. I would have a look on their website to see if it mentions anything about workmen removing it and if not I would ring and speak to a manager.0

BUT I would make sure the builder knocks some money off your bill 1. because you have to bag it and take it to the tip (don't send him in his van, it'll be rejected) and 2. he's saving a load of money which he should have allowed for by not having to dispose of it himself0

I like some of the suggestions. I was actually planning to take it to a tip that had a disposal facility but when I emailed them, thats when the snooty woman picked up the email. Even though it wasn't addressed to her. I think maybe one of my relatives (with a different name) may soon be needing to dispose of some asbestos!!!!!!:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

If your local tip is anything like mine, they aren't going to start interrogating you to find out where the asbestos came from. If it's properly bagged up, they will most likely just point you in the direction of the correct bin.
Don't mention your conversations with the council. You're just a householder getting rid of some waste. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
The person at fault here is not the woman at the council, it is your builder. He should be paying to dispose of this waste, and should have included the costs in the job hes charging to you. We don't all pay council tax so that your builder can get out of paying waste disposal fees.
This is right. Annoying though the woman at the council may have been - the builder by law should be disposing of this.
If you do the work yourself, you can take it to the Recycling Centre. Once you pay someone else to do it, they should dispose of it and incorporate the costs into their charges.
As others have advised - don't mention the builder did it, look online to see which of your local recycling centres takes it, and take it along yourself."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Ok I think you are making this way too overcomplicated:
1, Stop e-mailing the council (they often dont even run the sites)
2, double bag your waste
3, take it to the tip
4, put it in the appropriate bin/give it to one of the workers on the site
5, drive home
Have you never used your local HWRC? You dont ring them to let them know your coming. You turn up, dump off your rubbish/recyclables in the appropriate bin and drive away, they dont ask you who you are and you dont tell them.

Call an Asbestos Removal Contractor, or get the builder to do so.
Did the builder take all the appropriate precautions when removing it to prevent spreading dust all over the place? Should he have removed it, if he's not licenced to do so?

"The requirements for licensed work remain the same: in the majority of cases, work with asbestos needs to be done by a licensed contractor. This work includes most asbestos removal, all work with sprayed asbestos coatings and asbestos lagging and most work with asbestos insulation and asbestos insulating board (AIB)."
No offence meant.
