In fact, I might wear a dress to work tomorrow

You go girl! (envisage a white girl doing a neck roll whist saying it!)

Wearing something that makes you feel pretty/special etc can really make a difference to how you feel and how a day turns out I think :)

I need a new style and new clothes too - maybe we should all go shopping!

It's my work clothes that depress me the most. I seem to end up in black trousers and a thin jumper pretty much every day. I'd love to wear dresses and just generally look smarter (but not suit-smart, iyswim) but I have no idea where to start.

I also really badly need to get my hair cut. Basically I look a right state atm lol.

I loved some of the dresses on that sodamix website but having to pay for returns put me off a bit.

I have a gorgeous blue peter pan collar dress I bought in the Oasis sale last year. I have worn it out to dinner once last year. I shall be wearing that to work with a black cargidan I got for christmas from Warehouse that I have never worn.

Maybe instead of buying new clothes, I should buy a new pair of shoes and a jacket to go with smarter clothes, then I would have hunners of stuff to wear :rotfl:
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

That's a very good idea - I have a few shrugs and cardis (black, white and a couple of greys) that I mix and match with dresses or nice tops to make them look 'right' for where I'm going...from a day at the office to a shopping trip. It's amazing how the right accessories/shoes etc can do to transform an outfit!

Im 45 and love my skinnies and they love me!
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

What is it with most of us girls? Let's be honest most of us probably have far too many clothes and most we don't wear, why?, because we buy things we like but then realise they really aren't 'us' or suitable for our lifestyles.
I see women wearing something and think 'oh that looks good, perhaps I should try something like that' only to then find either it looks rubbish on me or I don't feel comfortable in it.

Take a good look at what you usually go for and your ideal look isn't too far removed.

I went through a bit of a wardrobe crisis after my first born,I really felt that my clothes no longer reflected who I was but I had no idea what kind of clothes to wear. Clothes might seem a minor thing but it really affected my confidence. I decided to opt for quality over quantity and stop buying lots of stuff that I never wear. So I got some plain grey dresses in Gap sale which could easily be dressed up or down with a cardi or boots/shoes. Also some skinny jeans in grey and dark denim and some blouses. I now know that I can go into my wardrobe and pull out a semi decent outfit without too much thought. I can wear dresses to work which makes it look like I am making an effort when in actual fact they are the easiest things to wear in terms of coordinating! I now find myself back in my converse and boot cut jeans/skinnies as I have realised that this is who I was all along! still, it helps to look smart sometimes and now have a wardrobe that reflects this :-)
Always on the lookout for more clothes though......

    I'm with jokeyjo - jeans, T's - I'm almost 40!

I alternate between DM's, flats and heels to high they give me a nose bleed! Just depends how I feel that day. To me, that's dressing for me- not for my 'lable' of almost 40!!!!

However - I would strongly reccoment a personal shopper if you are intending to do a whole new wardrobe. Unless you are fantastic with fashion and styling you could end up buying things that do not 'mix-and-match' - and waste money in the process!

My mum did this a few years ago (she now goes once or twice each year) to Debs. The girls were amazing. They brought stuff in for mum to try that she would never have looked at on her own. If you have dresses that you love to wear, take them with you to your appointment and the girls will show you how to style them. There is no pressure to buy - they selected some jeans for mum, but they were £60 - I knew we could get those in New Look of £20, so we did. They do not work on comission and they have in the past brought in many items that were in the sale. I would not hessitate to go with them!

    Hope you get sorted.

  • I'm really envious of ladies who can mix and match it and have a capsule wardrobe. I tend to buy the entire outfit on the dummy because if I buy seperates, I get home and nothing goes together! I tend towards reds and purples but thought I'd try some of the Autumnal colours last year - ochre, burnt orange etc but I had nothing else in my wardrobe to bring it all together. I would have had to buy a whole new wardrobe of clothes just to wear two tops. In future I'll stick to what I know!
