Quick Question re damaged box

we have recently bought a ride on toy for my nephews birthday, we got an email from the company saying they have 1 left in stock but that the box is very badly damaged do we still want the item or do we want a refund.
I think they are saying that no box will be coming with the item, can they still sell it as new without a box.
My OH was saying we should get a discount for no box.... is he right should i ask for a discount or just take the toy with the damaged box?
Im not sure if it makes a difference it was £40 for the toy.
Discount? or not....?
thanks for reading

Yes, they can sell it as new without the box, it doesn't mean the toy has been used.
It's always worth asking for a discount and also ask for reassurance that it will be suitably packaged to avoid damage.
One thing to bear in mind though, it will probably need some assembly (they usually do). I've always done the assembly before wrapping as it saves having an excited child jumping up and down while you get the spanners out! So you wouldn't necessarily need the packaging to give it as a gift.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -

Totally upto the company in question to offer you a discount, you dont have a `right' of discount because of a broken box, and the end of the day they are not forcing you to buy the item - its your choice. Ask for a discount, it would probably be in the companies interest to offer you a small one to off load the item, but they dont `have' to.0
