Spain - Need 6mth on Passport???

Hello,

Does anyone know if you need 6 months left on your passport for a visit to Spain?

I have tried looking online, but cant find anything, and everywhere seems to be shut today !!!!! Does anyone know where I should look. Tried the passport website, and the fco website, but still cant find anything.

The UK passport office have replied to an email enquiry, saying they are not informed of individual countries. I asked if we didnt need 6mths left as it was Europe, but they said some European countries still require this. They gave the number of the Spainish Embassy in London, but that is closed today.

Any help very much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

It always USED to be that you did require 6 months on a passport for Spain or any other country for that matter. Why this should be is anyone's guess as you pay for a 10 year passport, surely you should be able to use it for 10 years.
Are you wanting to go soon? If not you can reapply for a new passport - this time of year should not take more than a couple of weeks and you can track your application through the Passport office website.

Contact the airline you are flying with.If not flying, still contact any airline and ask.
I just found some further info https://www.holts.co.uk/holiday-information.asp
It can still be possible to go,apparently, but you should check with your local passport office or the Spanish Embassy.

Seems a palaver since we are both in the EEC and I thought that the idea was to reduce the red tape on inter-EEc travel.

Passports for travel within Europe are for ID purposes only see here. This, suggest 6 months remaining not a problem.

    Hope this helps

I was under the same impression that none of this would apply to Europe. Still cant believe the passport office dont know.
