The Range - Sofas

Hi

I'm not sure where is best to post this and it's virtually impossible to search for information on The Range due to the name of the store!

Weve seen a sofa we like at The Range but are unsure what the quality of sofas are like there. Has anyone here bought one from there or know what they're like?

Thanks

I have seen some of the furniture in the Range, looks ok, but the quality will be reflected in the price.

I would say that the choice is yours. If you think the sofa is worth the money and you are happy paying that price, then go for it.

Furniture in places like the range as well as other discounted places are made to suit a purpose, and to fill a void in the pricing for furniture. Go for it, but don't expect it to see you through to your old age, maybe 4-5 years possibly.

I bought 2 , 2 seater recliners from Harveys a few years ago. I wanted fabric, OH wanted leather. Nice sofas, but at £1500 a piece a bit pricey for what we needed. They are as I type covered in fur throws, as both of us, hate the cold leather against your skin, when you sit on them.

It is purely personal choice and budget. More than likely come from the same factory in China that harveys stuff comes from.
  • Top tip I was once told is to lift the sofa by one corner. If only that corner lifts then the frame is twisting and it is cheaply (poorly) made. If the entire end lifts up then the frame is rigid and strong(er)

Another tip gained through personal experience is get the best you can afford and don't fall for the was £xxxx now £xxx offers.

When we first moved we bought a 3 and 2 seater sofa from Homebase which was £800 reduced to £400. This lasted all of 6 months before it felt like you were sat directly on the wooden frame such was the poor quality of the cushions and webbing on the sofa base. It took weeks of arguing to get our money back. We were told that as we effectively paid £200 a sofa
what did we expect and that they were designed for occasional use only despite the person who sold it to us telling us what a bargain it was for such great quality sofas apparently worth £800.

We learned our lesson and bought our next sofa from Furniture Village and have since found the Range do exactly the same one for around the same price (£900) for an L shape sofa. Quality has been great so far (had it 3 years).

Have seen some nice furniture in the Range but as said above, the quality will be reflected in the price and as it something you will use on a daily basis it has to be worth investing in the best you can afford.

Hi- I got my sofas from SofaSofa a few years ago and they have been brilliant. We bought one from ebay (plus a matching chair and 2 seater from new) and the fabric is starting to fray a little now (on the ebay one which is 8yrs old). They are still solid and the foam is great. We have had a dog for 3yrs and she lies on one of them too.

Before you cynics start accusing me of SPAM, please check my post history! Genuinly really impressed with these sofas and thought that this might help someone.

By the way, these sofas are cheap!
  • Thanks for the input.

Rustyboy, if you don't like the cold leather on your skin, put some clothes on. :p

Good for nik naks, mirrors etc, but I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole for furniture, especially deliveries!

Ordered a glass dining table a year ago, was told it would be 7-14 days for delivery. 2 months and several phone calls later they gave me a delivery day. My friend waited in all day for me, but no table. Phoned up, was told it would be the next working day, he waited in all day again, they delivered the boxes, he had a quick check in the first 3, but didn't check the last one that the driver insisted on bringing in. When I came home and opened it, the glass was in hundreds of pieces, I was gutted.

I can't fault their returns and refund policy but it was so dissapointing. Got one from ebay in the end, better quality, cheaper, and delivered in one piece! I got my sofas from DFS, on interest free finance, and apart from the cats destroying them, i've been very happy with them!
