Jobcenter and P45

Ok, so I am new to this site and not sure if I am posting in the right section but here goes...
I was unemployed from the middle of 2009 until February of 2010. I got a full time job which I am still doing. I have been taxed correctly until this month's pay slip, where I have been taxed over £100 too much (I am on minimum wage so this amount is a big deal). I phoned the tax office, and they said that I am still registered as being on benefits, despite the fact that I gave my P45 from the job center to my employer when I started, I told the job center I had a job, and I have been taxed correctly for over two years. Anyhow, the guy at the tax office said in order to correct this, I need to send my P45 from the Job Center to HMRC so they can update their details. The problem is, I have mislaid this particular P45. Is the job center likely to still have my details on file after more than two years since my last claim, and as they probably can't give me a new P45, is there anything else I can ask them for in lieu of this?

Ah lol I wondered why I couldn't find it, I could put my hands on every other P45 I have ever received. I thought that I would still have a separate copy to the one I gave to my employer.0
