£500 loan required for 3 months
Hi,
I am due a bit of a windfall in September but need to get hold of £500 in July so that I can pay a jeweler friend to buy materials to make my gf an engagement ring so that i can propose when we are on holiday in Kenya this August.
I know I could do it without the ring but I want it to be special and I can afford a wee bit of interest in September as it will be worth it, also the jeweler is due to give birth in August/September so she says she would have to give the job to someone we don't know which also makes it a wee bit less special.
I'm not from a very wealthy family so can't go to them and make them feel guilty and my credit rating probably isn't great as I have accumulated a bit of a credit card balance and overdraft. I am also only working part time as I'm at uni (mature student) but earn a manageable wage where I am able to pay bills and mortgage comfortably.
Can anyone give me some advice? Can't pay her by card as cash in hand.

Save up?
Or cash advance on the credit card (can be quite expensive, but costs limited if paid off in full ASAP).0 -
Save up for it ?
Why not work your socks off once uni is over with ?0 -
Because we are going to be in Kenya and I will easily have the money in September. I would be able to pay for it in full less than a month after we return but all spare cash is paying for the safari we are going on etc.
I'm not in hardship or anything, just want to make a very special and romantic proposal to my other half...0 -
Weaz, this is why people get into debt in the start.
Trust me booming voice of reason and still doing it! I desperately need shirts for work and there was a deal on a website. I was 3/4 of the way to placing and order and then the annoying voice of "but you'll only have more debt"
Can you in the mean time get a second job call it spending money for the holiday or ask the bank to increase your overdraft.
Don't go down a high street loan as the APR will be huge. Maybe try speaking to a local credit union.0 -
I'm 30 years old, not a wee dude just out of high school plus i work in financial services so know the deal. Just looking for the smallest interest possible to cover for 2-3 months.
It's not like I am buying some irrational purchase, it's an engagement ring not a jetski

If you work in financial services may I suggest the product you are looking for is an overdraft?I'm 30 years old, not a wee dude just out of high school plus i work in financial services so know the deal. Just looking for the smallest interest possible to cover for 2-3 months.

Bank won't budge on the overdraft (getting it interest free for next 4 years so not a concern)0

To be fair, if I had really thought it through, i would have started saving a couple of months ago but it's only in the last few weeks that I have decided to get my act together - she has suffered me for 8 years so i owe it to her to try a bit0

Can you get a 0% on purchases card? I don't know your level of debt so don't know if it's possible. otherwise, ask for an overdraft increases.
However, my main recommendation is to get on eBay and sell sell sell.
Anything you don't use.
Also, any old mobile phones? Either eBay or phone recycling. Any DVDs? Try taking them to cash converters. etc.
Any skills to do some odd jobs?0 -
Nothing stopping you asking her whilst on holiday and getting the ring after - when you can afford it.0
