    This.

have you seen what the fix involves? Depending on the type of car a headlamp can be very pricey on its own. You might even be able to pay the garage direct.

At this point, I wouldn't be worrying about whether your insurance company is tapping your phone/emails to see if you've had an unreported accident than I would about getting this one sorted.

Make sure that any payment made is "full and final" so they can't come back for more - and get a reciept too!

    5t.

this is the advice i would be following if i was you OP

    lesson learnt hopefully?
some tart tried to lift my leg a long time ago when she hit me and i had my vehicle repaired, she knew i was in the trade and pulled a few favours to get a good job done and cheap ,but tart thought i was robbing her
i told her to stick her money and i would see her in court
she chased after me with the money in an envelope and got me to sign a disclaimer
i would never offer to do a claim outside of insurance again
  • Thank you for all your replies, I have definately learnt my lesson! I think I will deal with the garage in person, then get a full and final agreement. If I ever end up in this position again, I will be going through my insurers all the way!
    Thank you again
  • Its always a difficult decision, all you can do is judge the other person at the time, if they seem honourable, not to be confused with friendly, then i have sorted things out myself in the past, you have to be a good judge of character.

Price sounds ok to me depending on the car and the damage, if you broke a swiveling headlight or something fancy on a car with an image badge you could be looking at £400 for one front lamp assembly alone.

It's your call of course, but your insurer won't take a dim view of your not reporting this till now should you wish to use them on this occasion.

It often takes this long (and longer) for incidents to be reported.
  • To be honest £400 + VAT may not be far off the truth, dependin g on the car, I've just looked up what mine cost, Vectra C 2008 and cheap after market units are around £100 each on Ebay so I'll bet genuine ones are at least double that then there's labour and there may be unseen damage to put right ie mounting points, adjusters leveling, motors etc, the owner has every right to get the work done to a high standard using OEM parts rather than second hand or cheap aftermarket parts.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world
