Further to my previous post, I realised that I had only put the last 3 digits of my registration in the machine, when I paid £2 for an extra hours parking (the first 2hours were free) It did say to put the full registration in (in fairly small letters among the instructions) but it was in an unfamiliar car park while on holiday. I`m used to a car park where you do only use the last 3 digits. But I`m still p****d off that I`m being fined when I paid for the extra hour. The company claim to have checked and say they can't find a numberplate in the system which in any way resembles mine. I simply don`t believe them as I know I put the last 3 digits in. Along with the fee. Unfortunately the ticket got thrown away before I received the parking notice, as I never dreamed I`d need it. it was displayed correctly on the dashboard the whole time I was parked, but I don`t suppose they took a photo with the car park being camera controlled at the entrance.

Do you mean have we come across anything similar to a company trying to scam you out of money to which they are not entitled, by telling lies?
Yes, on this forum it is a very frequent occurrence.
What did you think, Alison, that they would say, OK, don't worry, there's no need to pay us?
Doesn't happen with these bandits.
However, worry not because there IS no need to pay them. Just ignore them, they won't do anything. They know that when push comes to shove they are in the wrong, though like all good scammers they would never dream of admitting it. That's bad for business.
You owe them nothing whatever; so pay them what you owe them!0 -
Yes, we've heard of this before.
Luckily you are not being fined, as they don't have the power to do this, only courts, the police, and the local council (and TfL) can issue fines. Private companies cannot.
You don't even have a real parking ticket, you have an invoice inviting payment for breaching a contract. A couple of things.
1. They can only pursue the driver (I fear you may have already furnished them with that info, but no worry, the killer is #2).
2. They can, under civil contract law (which is what this falls under) pursue the driver ONLY for the actual losses (or a genune pre-estimate) they have incurred as a result of the breach. As you bought a ticket (even if you no longer have it, you still paid), their losses are zero, so pursuing you for £60 (or whatever it is they are chasing from you) makes it completely unenforceable from a legal viewpoint.
You should cease all communication with this lot and ignore everything you get, including letters from debt collectors or even a pretend solicitor, all threatening court action, bailiffs, CCJs, bad credit rating. Its all absolute tosh, and is a scam. Legally you owe them absolutely nothing and they know this, hence they are extremely (and I'm talking winning the lottery odds) unlikely to try court action. They haven't got a leg to stand on.
They will stick with the scary letters hoping you will cave in and pay them money you don't legally owe them.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
You paid for your parking, therefore the landowners loses were zero.
It's not your fault the machine allowed you to input the full number plate.0 -

Yes but you do not need it!!:)
Please stop thinking about the finer detail of events that earned you a fake PCN. Join the club! Many people get them in private car parks for such heinous 'crimes' as parking on a white line, being disabled in a disabled bay - you name it, the scammers will find a reason to try to extort money from you.
IGNORE IT AND ALL THE LETTERS THAT FOLLOW (except real, sealed Court papers which will never arrive).
You would do well to see how common this scam is - see my signature, the whole current forum view is just one click away and 99% of threads are talking about fake PCNs like yours. We have filled up the whole first page and a half with new replies only today, it's so common a scam!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
