Haven't used any wireless video senders myself, but the can be proned to interference and the range won't be as big in the real world as the specs say.
In terms of TV screen and laptop screen, that depends on your laptop and its graphics chip. What you're looking to do is EXTEND the desktop (then you can put the video over on the new bit of screen, and work on your laptop's screen), but lots of laptops can only MIRROR the desktop (show on the external display exactly what's on the laptop display.
  • Apple TV will stream anything in your itunes folder on your pc to your TV over a wifi network. I can also do anything I would normally do on my PC at the same time.

This only downside is the file has to be in the right format and on your pc rather than on 4OD for instance. If I want to use those I just use my PS3 which is plugged into the TV.

Speaking on PS3's - I think you can play things over wifi from your PC using that. Again it needs to be a downloaded file I think but I have never used it that for that.

Use your router, i have been streaming HD around the house for years, no other expense needed or software.
Never tried wifi though but see no reason on the 5ghz band.
Even the PIR outside can be linked wireless.

You can get long HDMI cables, done it that way as well.
All methods you have a dual screen ie pc and tv. You output what you want to the tv, even text as would be read on pc screen.
It gets a bit annoying seeing your mouse cursor on the tv.
