What to do with a rented room for a few months?

Hello all! This is my first post on these forums, so please bear with me...

I'm buying a place, so I'm about to leave my shared student house. My contract is 'til 30th June, but the landlord (who is a star) has said he's happy for me to leave early, as long as I find someone else to move in. Bless him!

That said, it's a pain to find someone who only wants a room for a few months. I've been advertising, and had a few bites, but no one's actually said yes. Luckily, the rent is dirt-cheap, so I can afford to pay that as well as the mortgage... but obviously, I'd rather not!

So my question to y'all is... can you think of anything useful I could do with the room for the next few months?!

If you rent it out for less than you're paying currently and basically subsidise them by paying the rest, I'm sure someone will grab at the bargain, even if it is only for a few months.

Cheaper for you than paying the full amount?

There are sometimes foriegn students that are just over for a few months or people who don't like where they are so usually people looking for somewhere. If you can price it, so your room is good value for money yet nicer than rest sure to get someone in. Though i wouldn't go too cheap as people get suspicious or expect by the price that its going to be some dump.

Have you tried putting up flyers at your uni? There may well be students who are between places and would be happy with a short-term let. Gumtree's also good for that sort of thing.

I had the same sort of thing a few years ago. I was living in a small flat but wanted to leave early to move in with my DH. The landlord said that he was happy for me to go, if the flat was rented out again asap.

Basically they just advertised it and someone snapped it up within a week. Can landlord just advertise now instead of waiting a few months?? Its seems a bit pointless trying to get someone in for just a few months.

Many thanks to all for the useful comments! I'll try out the suggested websites, and yes, I have put up flyers in a few places around uni. I've got a couple of interested people at the mo, so hopefully one of those will bite! (Sadly, the landlord wants to rent it to other people from 1st July, so it's a very limited time frame - makes it a bit more awkward!)

I have found myself in the past in a similar situation, and the local student's rag or free paper has been the best answer for me.
