How much to paper hall, stairs and landing?

Can someone give me a ballpark figure for this please?
3bd victorian semi with half landing........ you know the sort, 12 stairs, bathroom at back, then turn and 5 more stairs to landing with 3 bedrooms.....
I have stripped and prepared the walls except the bits which were too high on the 'turn of the stairs'. 1700 lining paper and paste already purchased at a discount.
No doubt the P&D would want to improve on my preparation, but the donkey work has already been done, so how much do you think this would cost me?
PS.... do you think that I could ask for the bits I can't reach to be painted if the paper goes up in the right order, or will the paper have to be left too many days to dry before painting?
Thanks ...

Thanks for your reply.... I think that you are refering to the woodwork paint and then paper............ I meant the paint on the paper after it is hung.
I can do the woodwork that I can reach before the lining paper goes up, and can emulsion what I can reach once the paper is up and dry. In fact I am a pretty good decorator's mate too.Pasting, fetching and carrying, coffee, cake etc.
I'm on a tight budget and wondered if a P&D would be prepared to work like this?0 -
Ormus my pal, this will be the first time we disagree, as I am always very impressed with your knowledge of decorating
However, paint and paper is the wrong way round, specially with L/P.
Get all the filling and prep out the way, sand skirtings doors etc can be done after lining or before, then hang the L/P, leave at least 24 hours to dry, then a decent decorator (like me) lol, would go round the tops of the L/P where wall meets ceiling, and down the sides of the door frames, and above the skirtings with decorators filler, the white stuff in the tube, and give a nice professional finish to the paper.
Then when the filler is dry, me personally would leave it till the next day, I know you can paint over some makes in an hour, but you will then get the chance of it cracking or crazing when the paint has dried.
Then I would undercoat all the woodwork whilst waiting for everything to dry out nicely, then I would paint my ceiling, when finshed with 2 good coats, then start painting the walls, whilst waiting for paint to dry, I would perhaps start on the doors.:D0 -
Thanks, this is really helpful.......... ball park figure?
With and without mate?;)0 -
TBH stilernin, I couldnt say without seeing it, I do decorating for a living, and HSL is one of the most difficult to price,as there is so much effort and straining involved, plus you take your life in your hands lol.
Sometimes when I do HSL,if its too narrow for a board and another set of steps, I have to work of the ladder, and its a nightmare.
Even with L/P you must get the first length dead straight, and that can take you about 30 mins or so, time your up and down , butting into the plump line, smoothing, moving the ladder up rungs down rung etc, and thats just one length, my back take a beating every time, even with a board, as you have to keep moving the board, moving the ladder, then going back up to smooth again etc, then you have to crawl under the board, and walking on it, is like walking the plank.
And the first length you hang is usually where the bulk wall is, thats the wall that you see facing you when you come down the stairs.
So either to the right or left depending where your stairs are, you do your first drop, which is also the longest, then you work in two directions from your first drop,to the right, and to the left.
Hope this helps a bit.:D0 -
