Breakdown cover

Just discovered that RAC do not refund your payment if you want to cancel during the year. Bought a new car with manufacturer's cover included. Only renewed for the year in Feb 2012 and RAC get to keep the remainder of my payment. Feel a bit shocked at this!!

Could be wrong, but I have a vague recollection from some years ago that where breakdown cover was included in the new car purchase price you could defer the start of the breakdown cover on the new vehicle until your existing cover expired.?. Then again I'm sure someone will say otherwise if that's the case.0

Sometimes they allow you to suspend cover until you require it again.
At the end of the day, you took out an annual contract, not a flexi one. It wouldn't make good business sense to have customers able to phone up and cancel at random.0
