given incorrect discount

Hi,
I have the duel fuel offer from Npower where you get £100 off after you have been on direct debit with them for 12 months. However they have given me £100 off both of my first 2 quarterly bills. If they notice they have given the discount in error can they ask me to pay it back?

They won't ask you to pay it back, they'll just reverse the credit.
You are under no obligation however to point out their error in their billing.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • So they can reverse the credit meaning i'll then owe them an extra £200.

The OP got the £200 after the first quarter - not after 12 months.

So I suspect they will adjust the balance by £200.

O.P. Yes if any firm makes a mistake(in your favour) they can correct the error.

That appears to be a mistake which they are entitled to correct.

There is something else to be aware of, NPower normally pay the "deferred discount" monthly pro-rata, but it is not earned until 12 months on direct debit has elapsed. If you switch before the discount is earned the discount will be clawed back in the final bill.

They can just amend the bills whenever they wish. The usual way will be to add the debt on possibly with a note in the next bill. So, make sure you have got it spare.

If the annual discount is automatically applied, the chances off them spotting this are perhaps low until someone looks at your bills for some reason and notices it. If its going to pay out at the end of each bill it sounds like some sort of error with the anniversary date being continually moved...but to find out you will have to admit to having it...
