To all those who have been helpful (so, thats everyone apart from my pal Keith), thanks very much! Will probably pop a classified onto Ebay as it sounds like that is the way to go
Actually Keith, no, i apologise - you HAVE been helpful.... in showing how my OH is not ACTUALLY the most pompous, know-it-all "car" person i have ever met!
Cheers Lads
Will now take my little female self off and look at something which interests me... such as... um... well, anything apart from cars!!! :A
The 205 GTi is definitely a specialist car now - lots of men around my age remember these from their teens when they were not in a position to buy them, and there is a resurgence in 80/90s hot hatches as the middle aged crisis kicks in. I speak from experience - I bought something from that era myself a few years back, and believe me, I saw some utter dogs out there that were also supposed to be special editions. Special bloody needs more like!
Because of this, people will be willing to spend quite a bit of cash to get the right one, so it is in your own interest to list as much as possible about the car as you can, show as many pictures as possible, and give the car a good clean and polish. Make it look like it has been looked after and never ever admit to not having the cash to do something on it as it will make buyers wonder else has been overlooked.
And to be fair to Keith, because this is a specialist car now, there are a lot of people that will know every little intricacy of model variations across the years. Trying to bluff them will only lose you a potential buyer. If your other half knows a lot about them, then let him write the description, because he will know what will appeal to potential buyers.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
