Audi a6 98, new batteries put in key now not working?

Hiya we have had to replace the batteries in our key fob and i remember the last time we had to do it we had to sort of pair up the key to the car - but we dont seem to be able to do it - so now we cant lock car etc unless we put the key in the door to unlock or lock - real pain - any help would be great as i know just to ask a mechanic around here would cost more than i would want to pay lol cheers

If you just swapped the battery staright, it should be fine and working, are you sure the new batteries were good?

If they are working then usually all you have to do in unlock the car with the key then start the car. Turn the car off and try to lock and unlock the car with the remote withing 30 seconds. It may take a few tries but this usually does the job. If you are not adding a new key fob then this is all you should need to do

ok thanks i will try that - i think we have tried that already - but ill give it another shot - does it matter if the batteries were out of the fob for a few mins as we had to take them out to match them up with the correct ones in the shop? - cheers

Probably needs to be re-programmed. Have a look in the manual, usually a combination of inserting the key turning to I, II or something like that. I remember seeing it in our old Ford Focus manual so assume can be done for other makes
