they also either give free, or heavily subsidised formula milk to orphanges in countries (where they've just spent £9 BILLION on hosting a football tournament) is that wrong as well, because to be quite frank, the state of some of them kid is disgusting and they would literally die without the formula milk.

So many reasons - so little time! (and I'm trying to find a link that explains far better than I can)

Nestle make baby formula - that in itself is OK - (I'm a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, we'll leave out formula debates right now), and Nestle like to push the use of formula, out in lesser developed countries, where these mothers cannot always read the instructions on how to safely make it - that is assuming they have access to water - and that it is safe to drink!

There's much more to it than that - Wiki has a lot of the issues covered -

Do you have any evidence of that?

there you are darlin' a link for you--maybe you could spare a few quid to stop a kid starving to death who has spent his entire life in a cot looking at bare walls?

Nestle provide us with formula and cereal at a price below wholesale. This means that for $5 we can provide supplemental feeding for a baby for a month.

OK, I'm really not taking the peepee here, I'm really curious...how does this *pushing breastmilk* actually work in the real world? When I think of "developing countries", without access to safe drinking water, I think of the little babies you see on children in need, live aid etc, getting by in little huts, or just tents in the desert, whatever...

And then you talk about pushing breast feeding on them...So are you thinking billboards? TV campaigns...

I'm just curious what how they *actually do* this stuff...

They do the opposite of pressing breastmilk in my experience. They dress women up as nurses and send them to villages (which are unlikely to have power, running water or proper sewerage) where they tell the mothers that the formula is better for baby than breastmilk. They give a sample - usually a month's supply - free of charge. Brilliant, thinks mum. They're wearing medical uniforms and giving me free stuff.

Trouble is, in the month that she's using the formula, her own milk dries up. And once left to her own devices she has no choice but to a) spend a fortune on formula or use less (thus starving baby) and b) make it with dirty water.

These people generally work on the land and have a simple existence. Up with the sun, sleep when it's dark. Do what you can to feed your family. They rarely can afford education or healthcare, so someone coming to them telling them what to do has no counter argument.

I commented before the cause of this problem is to be found in Rome rather than Zurich.

are the once breastfeeding mother's drinking the dirty water themselves that they use to make up the formula?

The boycott started in 1977, I'd imagine the same policy makers/marketing team aren't even there anymore!

Yes, but an adult's digestive system is a lot less sensitive than a new born baby.

and they have the money to buy the formula, and know the water is dirty, but don't boil it to make the formula?

Are the nestle people flogging bottles and teets as well?
