Mazda6 2.2d SL Estate - Sluggish pickup in each gear at lower end of rev range?

:o Hi all, I've had my 09 (35k) 2.2d SL Estate for about a month now, and generally very pleased with the car.

Having test driven the same spec car before buying this one, I seem to remember the pickup in each gear (even at the lower end of the rev range) to be pretty gusty, but mine seems to plateua for a second or more after each gear change.

Any suggestions as to what this could be?

Thanks so so much.

Same model spec, But is the engines power output, 125bhp, 130bhp, 160bhp, 177bhp or 185bhp?

Had the other car been tweaked, Naughty company car drivers have been known to fit tuning boxes, Or even had remaps to get a bit more power.

    Mostly these go undetected.

Hey, thanks for replying, sorry for the delay, I got no notification!

It's the 185bhp Sport Luxury version, which is the same as the Sport, but with a few additions.

The Sport I test-drove was at the local Mazda Dealers (Mitchells), and I'd imagine it wouldn't have been tampered with.

    Still confused by this :o

You may be changing fractionally lower RPM than you did on the test drive (most people leave gear changes later when new to a car). Sounds like when you change up you are below the RPM where the turbo is actually providing meaningful boost. What kind of RPM are you at post-gearchange? If under about 1400rpm this is probably why.

The previous owner/keeper may have had it tweaked.

Unless the dealer do a ECU update which erases all the old data it will still be tweaked.

Company car drivers do get them tweaked, Remaps or tuning boxes etc.

Tuning boxes are usually removed before handing them back, And a dealer may spot one if they didnt.
But a remap wont show anything different.

Just seems a bit more eager to rev or pulls harder etc.

And those few additions add weight to your car, Making it slower.

Usually why older cars uprated the power for the top end models.
Extra 5 or 10bhp extra to compensate for the extra weight added.

You dont want the reps basic lx model out performing your super duper top spec, Ghia X super gold plated version do you.

Find the cars peak torque and aftet changing up to the next gear you want it to be close to that figure.

Change too early and you will be below the peak powerband.
