Delay/Repay - Rail Travel Vouchers

Last year I was given £48 of Rail Travel Vouchers (2 x £24 vouchers) by East Coast due to separate delays on trains to Kings Cross. Despite booking my tickets online you have to actually take the vouchers in to the station to buy your tickets using these vouchers which is very inconvenient and of course you don't get the best rates at the ticket office.

I no longer go to London or travel on the train very often and one of my vouchers expires on 5th June and the other on 2nd May.

Any body got any good ideas on how I can redeem these for cash before they expire?. I tried to list them on ebay but they wouldn't let me due to legal restrictions on sale of tickets.

Could I buy a ticket (to anywhere) for £48 and then claim a refund?

Any ideas welcome.

If you bought a ticket at £48 and claimed a refund it would probably be refunded in vouchers (as the ticket would indicate that it had been bought with vouchers) and subject to a £10 fee. At best you'd have succeeded in extending their validity.

and of course you don't get the best rates at the ticket office.

In general the rates at a ticket office are identical to those online - yes there are exceptions, but that's the normal rule

East Coast might be prepared to cash them for you - worth phoning. The EU regs (to which I'm not sure if the UK has yet signed up) say you are entitled to money
