What does 'call ref no' mean on my statement?

Options
Hi guys.
I have made a few payments out of my bank account over the weekend, and when i logged into my OLB this morning, 2 of those payments had 'Call ref No' in the description...what does this mean?

I was thinking it may be a security thing, and that they are going to call me to make sure that it was me that made the payments (in case of a security breech or something) as i dont normally make such big payments out.

What else could it be do you think?

Could be transfers. When I transfer between my accounts or have a charge (I have a monthly one I did cancel for something years ago-something involving insurance) it has 'call ref' and the account number.

    Did you make transfers?

I made a transfer on one (between my back accounts), but the other transaction that had 'call ref no' on was to argos (i made the payment online).

Doesn't mean anything much - just what they call a transfer - either between your own accounts or to an external account.

Nothing to be concerned about at all - and nothing to do with security

How was the payments made? Was they done online or over the telephone.

If your a Natwest/RBS customer the call ref is the number they would use to locate the transaction / call recording should they need to for what ever reason.

The transfer was done online (via my OLB) and the argos payment was also made online.

Natwest marks transfers between accounts in this way. I've no idea what it means and there doesn't seem to be any logic to the numbers used. I even asked Google some time ago, but it didn't come up with a definitive answer.

It's just a ref number so the bank locate your transaction should there be any queries at a later date it's nowt to get your knickers in a twist over!
