Cancelled Spotify subscription, still got charged, not entitled to refund

Hi everyone,
Because I had a shock with my bank balance, and decided to make cut backs, one of the first things I canceled was my subscription to Spotify. The service is alright, but you're a bit stuffed if you want to listen to some Led Zepplin (which aren't on their catalogue).
Anyway, I canceled the subscription although it wasn't exactly an easy thing to do, it was hidden away quite well. I had the email come through saying that the service would be canceled on that day. Great I thought.
On Saturday though I checked my bank online, to see that a subscription for Spotify came out for £9.99 after I had cancelled. Being a bit hacked off by this I emailed them asking what was going on. And this is their response:
I'm sure that I canceled the subscription before the order would be renewed as I didn't want to pay £9.99 again for a service I wouldn't be using from here on in. I've emailed them back saying that I haven't used the service since, but I logged in to the website to check if the service had been canceled.
I also emailed them back saying that if I've canceled this means I'm not going to use the service, so at the very least I should be refunded on a pro-rata basis. I'm yet to hear back.
What makes this all the more infuriating is that my friend was in a similar situation where he tried to cancel but couldn't. He had to go through PayPal to do it. I haven't used PayPal so it used my card.
Has anyone ever had a similar sort of experience?

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your email. I am sorry to hear you were charged.
When looking into this for you, it seems that there is no record of your cancellation until after the payment made on the 12th April. As the account has been logged into since the charge, we're unable to process a refund in this circumstance.
I can confirm however that your subscription is cancelled and will revert to our free service on the 12th May.
Hopefully this explains what happened, if there is anything else we can do to help, please let us know.
All the best
Steph

What date did you get the cancellation email? How much notice do the T&Cs say you have to give? One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

I'm not entirely sure, I have to check on my computer at home. But because Mr.Murdoch at Sky are having issues with my broadband I can't check them. I will find out later today when they have fixed the issue (hopefully!)0
