netbook not booting up ?

I have a basic netbook , one of those zoostorm ones.Had it for a couple of Years and not had any problems but the other day switched it on as usual and got a message that there were disk errors and would be performing scans to fix this.It also said that it would take over an hour to complete.Left it on for 3 or 4 hours and it was still performing the scan without any success.
Tried to start it in safe mode but still got the same messages as above.
Would windows need to be re-installed to get it working ?

Thanks :money:

    At what point in the boot sequence did this message appear, and what is the exact wording of the message?
    How do I add a signature?

    When I switch on the screen tells me " loading files" and then instead of the usual log on screen appearing , I get this message ;

    " Startup repair is checking your system for problems
    If problems are found , startup repair will fix them automatically.Your computer might restart several times during this procedure.
    No changes will be made to your personal files or information .This might take several minutes."

    The screen then shows the scanning process with a remark of
    "Repairing disk errors.This might take over an hour to complete.

    Have left it for several hours but doesnt get any further than the scanning procedure.

    I would try it again in Safe Mode. Failing that you may need to use the recovery partition to reinstall Windows, but you should be aware that by doing so you will destroy everything currently on the disk (photos, documents, music etc) . If you have stuff on the disk you need, get hold of a USB caddy, remove the hard disk from the netbook and place in caddy, and connect this to a different PC/laptop to copy your files across BEFORE attempting recovery.

    Have tried the diagnostic and got a message of ;

    Root cause found ;
    Boot configuration is corrupt.
    Repair action ; Partition table repair
    Failed ; Error code = 0 x 490

    Unfortunately , didnt create a restore point either so cant go back in time to when everything was working ok

    Not been backing up things reguarly either so have got about 75 % of the photos and videos backed up on my archos mp4.It is really a harsh lesson for me to back things up more reguarly ( weekly).

    Will try and get hold of a caddy and get the stuff on the hard disk onto my mums computer , then re-install windows.

    thanks
