Resetting Ford alarm

Lost my alarm/remote key this morning (Ford Fiesta Ghia 2002) so I had to use my spare key.

I've found a couple of threads which suggest switching on the ignition within 20 seconds but as soon as I open the door the alarm goes off for 30 seconds, the hazard lights for about 5 minutes. I've not found a way to bypass this.

I've had a look at the handbook but can't find any mention of the alarm.

Anyone know if/how it can be reset or turned off or am I looking at an expensive trip to the local Ford garage?

Try locking the drivers door by reaching in from the rear passenger door, then dive out and close that door behind you (Take care NOT to leave your key in the car during this process!!!).

If you have only 3 doors, you could try it from the passenger side.....

I'm going on the theory that the key being used in the driver door, sets the alarm.

Eventually though, your going to get p!ssed off doing this and buy a new key.

Well I seem to have succeeded. Not sure exactly how though. I've now unlocked & opened the door twice with no problems.

Had a call back from the local Ford garage. They gave me the number of a mobile locksmith who is apparently cheaper than getting a new key through Ford. Don't think I'll bother getting it done though. Given the notice people seemed to take when I was driving the car with alarm sounding and hazard lights flashing it seems fairly pointless.

I'll just have to get used to locking & unlocking the car the old fashioned way again, at least until the main key turns up. I've checked the bins, vacuum cleaners & even the washing machine. So it must still be somewhere in the house.
