Best win so far - holiday to Florida

    Hi Folks,

Sorry not been on for a while. I am being made redundant in September at the latest and so its all a bit depressing!! The problem is I absolutely LOVE my job. I am an Air Hostess, on a fantastic part time contract I work 9 days a month, and get very good dosh for the pleasure, and I have been flying for 13 years now. I am devastated. I love my job that much, that I would ALMOST do it for free! I can't go to another airline as there is no chance of getting a part time contract as a new starter, and the days I currently work, wrap around DH's job, so we never need childcare help. (2 kids aged 3 and 4) so this is like the end of my dream career. I have told myself that I will go back in 10 years when the kids are older and do Longhaul full time. This is the carrot that is keeping me sane. I can't bear the thought of not getting dolled up in my uniform with lashings of lipstick and looking after my passengers.

To cheer ourselves up, we have booked a holiday to Florida (go in 2 weeks) using staff travel and savings (it was DIRT cheap, and it would have been criminal not to book this, believe me!), so we have that to look forward to. I imagine I will be on this forum more than ever in the future.

Anyway, back to the MoneyMaking topic. I have £31 to add. The cashier in the bank was unable to add 3 amounts together, despite 3 attempts (Why didn't she have a calculator????) and gave me an extra £1! Also, my £30 cashback for a Quidco credit card came through (I had applied in Feb) so adding that on. Got some stuff on ebay, so hoping that nets a profit too.

Hope everyone has a nice day!

    Thanks Lavinia,

Its good to hear that others have survived this situation! I just don't want to do anything other than fly, thats the problem. I might change my mind given time though. I have flown as crew for most of my life, although I did do a stint at sales (which I was quite good at) but hated the pressure. I also did office/reception work as a college leaver, but hated it. Mainly because I love to chat and I am loud, and I was constantly being reprimanded!!

    Onward and upward.

Good luck SFG I'm sure you'll find something else you enjoy doing.

My sister is cabin crew too and she works the same as you, doesnt do more than 10 flights a month but she's looking at changing airlines, possibly virgin but still doing the same amount of flights. Shes at Thomson at the mo, who do you work for? Don't be defeated just yet, sis says airlines are desperate for people to fly at a moments notice so do keep looking

So sorry about your job SFG, hope you find something that you enjoy as much and still fits in with your family. Fab holiday to look forward to :-)

I sold another item on Facebook so that's £5

On the down side my daughter is off school today as horrendous cough, took her to drop in clinic as no appointments at Drs and she has Tonsillitis and while I was there I got my throat checked as really sore and I have a throat infection!

superfly gal I also used to help people back to work and I what I used to say to them is what do you like about your job or and then look at roles that you can use these skills in. Once you get started thinking you will suprised with what you came up with. My redundancy felt like someone close had died I mourned for a long time after. Remember things happen for a reason and once you open yourself to opportunties and roles you have been interested in and have thought you would like to do but never thought possible it gives you the enthuasim to go on. Good luck who knows whats round the corner for you. Sorry to all those reading this abit off topic but I do feel it applies to all who are the same boat.
