My OH bought me a new laptop - It's great but our broadband provider is talktalk and the disk does not seem to work. We think it is something to do with the Microsoft Vista (business) which was preloaded. Anyone know how we can get over this. I really don't want to ring talktalk techincal help line. It's 10p a minute and I last time I rang I was on hold for 40 minutes.
Thanks in advance.

As you are on the internet now, go to the talk talk website and download the latest drivers for your modem, they should hopefully be Vista compliant, and then transfer them onto your Vista pc.
BTW, you're not the only one having this problem...... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6407925.stm0 -
Or better still, use Ethernet and not USB to connect the modem to your PC. No drivers or CD need to be loaded on the PC to use Ethernet. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

vista has lots issues.

isp,s are not up to speed yet wif vista.Get some gorm.0 -
There have been a lot of issues with external USB dial up and broadband modems and Vista. Best thing to do is keep checking for updated drivers from the manufacturers websites, or as stated above, better yet - connect via ethernet.
I've heard a few storeis about people being able to get a (wireless) router as they connect via ethernet from certain ISP's because of Vista driver problems. This is not a signature...0 -
If have already setup the broadband router on the other pc - you do not need to put the CD in the new laptop.
Are you trying to connect via ethernet cable or wireless ?
Either way ensure the network card (wireless or not) is active - turned on and set the TCP/IP to get details automatically.
Ensure IE is set to not dial a connection.
If wireless - ensure you have your WPA/WEP key handy etc.
If router's DHCP is locked down via MAC etc - then configure it via the other PC.

Poor people spend then save what's left.0
