Mortgage PPI Dilemna

Hi there,
I have recently sent off a PPI complaint questionnaire to Santander for the mis-selling of mortgage PPI.
The basis of my complaint is that I work less than 16 hours a week and the policy booklet states that it only covers people that work for over 16 hours a week. Plus my husbands wages are sufficient to cover the mortgage if I was unable to work.
I've had this policy since we took out the mortgage over 20 years ago and it's still running.
Stupid question probably but should I just cancel the policy?
I think I know the answer writing this all down but will the fact it is still running affect my claim?
Please be gentle with me (obviously not very money savvy!!!).
