Hey Guys, I dont know if you can help me at all, however I am having some problems playing a DVD on my Windows 7 64bit Laptop, basically when I am playing the DVD it works fine however mid way through the movie it breaks out and becomes pixilated and also it then stops. Now I have tried many attempts to get rid of this problem, I have first of all gone through the scene selection and then play it from there with no avail, I then proceeded to go to Windows Answers website and ran about ever Fix IT application which came up with NO problems but it did not fix the problem, So I then went and installed a VLC player thinking that the video player is not working and then again the same problems came up. After that I went to my mother computer and played the DVD thinking it was the disk however it worked seamlessly on my mums computer!!! So I then went and uninstalling and re installing the DVD/BLURAY Disk Drive and attempted to see if that would fix it however its actually made it worse, Can someone please help me thanks,

check the drive maker's website for updated drivers, also same for the graphics chip on your pc. Don't rely on windows update to have the latest for your hardware......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Laptop brand and model number and the software used for playing DVDs if you please.0

Hey guys, thank you very much for your replies its greatly appreciated, now GunJack I have taken your advice and I am currently going onto my graphics chip manufacturer and downloading the latest drivers and then will get back to you with my results, and Take This, I am using a Asus N73jg and my software that I am using is the bog standard Windows Media Player. So what I will do is I will install the driver and see where that takes me give you a nod weather it works or not and if It dont I will get back to you asap. Thanks guys

Does it still do it if you switch between integrated and discrete graphics?0

Well I have taken the advice of Gunjack and I went to Nvidia's website and I have installed the latest drivers and carried out the instructions on their website, and I have tried my dvd again to see weather that sorted the problem out however its actually made it worse, now to answer your question Takethis, Well I believe I am having problem as it just does not like to switch graphics because when I start up the computer it all well and fine and even when I have logged in it works I believe looking at the light on the laptop and then after a couple of mins after the computer is on the light just stays at blue which means the discrete graphics and just dose not budge which is very irritating and I dont know how to fix that at all, plus I dont know whether this connected on not but when I have watched dvds in the past when its pans accross the screen it judders, plus when i am a web page and I scroll a lot it just hangs and I hear a strange beeping sound can you help with that one please thanks.
Kind Regards

Since ASUS usually have a two year global warranty, you perhaps can take up the issue with them.0 -
Hey Takethis, Thank you very much for your advice however there is two problems, 1 I have modified my laptop by installing a brand new hard drive and secondly I dont have the receipt or know where I purchased it from as it was a long time since I purchased it however I am going to try to find out! Thanks0

are the problems with dvd playback happening with all dvds, or just one particular one?
The fact that one "problem" disc plays back fine in another player does not mean that it's not the disc. Different players are very different in being tolerant of errors.
The jerky playback when panning across a scene is a typical fault of NTSC playback on a machine designed for PAL standards. Is the disc NTSC or PAL?
good luck0 -
Hey rrf494g, thanks for your advice and yes I have checked and everything is set to PAL and the disk is PAL so there should not be any problems, what I am going to do is, firstly contact ASUS support and see what they say in regards to the warranty front and if they are willing to assist me in getting it sorted and if its going to be complex and too expensive I am going to sell the laptop and purchase the newer model which I have seen. Any other help or advice or even other forums dedicated to support for this would be great! Thanks0

I just would like to inform everyone that has helped me that I have decided to purchase a brand new laptop as I spoke to ASUS on the telephone and they have told me because I have modified my laptop, i have invalidated the warranty meaning a LOADs of money to ship it off and get it fixed and settled with financial wise, so I will be selling my laptop on to a computer professional who can fix it and sell it on to a happy home. So thank you very very much guys for all your support and I have clicked thanks for each of you, kind regards MSS0
