Oven Isolator Switch making a rather odd noise.

I turned the oven on tonight and 2 minutes later heard a pop and the circuit breaker had tripped.

Tried it again and the switch on the wall popped instantly and the circuit breaker went again.

I initially thought the oven was knackered, but I tried the hob which is also connected to the same isolator and the switch still makes an odd buzzing/fizzing/crackling noise.

Got it all switched off now, just wondering if anyone has any idea what it could be? I'm not expert but it seems it must be the switch itself.

It does sound like the switch, fairly cheap to replace but turn off the electrics and remove it from the wall to see if there are any signs of burning, arcing, etc.

I'd replace it and see if that solves the problem.

Cool thanks, didn't want to touch it myself so got a sparky friend coming over to put a new one on. I can handle a light fitting (just) but I draw the line at the cooker :)
