Never keen on claiming for miss-sell as asked for the ppi but what i was not told was if i did lose job and went self-employed, which i did, that the insurance would be of little or no use to me. how would my approach to a claim differ as would only be regarding the period since the change.. help.... thanks in advance

Probably not much hope of complaining about that. It's your circumstances at the time of the sale that count, not the choices you make after. If however you asked them at the time of the sale what would happen if you became self-employed or rang them and told them you were going self-employed (did you?) and they told you the the PPI would still cover you then you would have a much better chance of having your complaint upheld. If you were never provided with policy documents you could argue you were not provided with the information to ascertain for yourself whether the cover was still appropriate. I was helping a friend with a similar one and spoke to the FOS about it - their advice was it was unlikely to be upheld but nothing ventured nothing gained. In my friend's case it wasn't upheld.0

Thanks for that. I was in fact made redundant through company going bust so was kind of railroaded into the self-employment route, although I realise i still chose this option. Would i at least be able to cancel the insurance from this point on, have about 8 months left to run but it is just shy of £60 per month so better in my pocket than theirs I'd say.0

Just another thought, if when enquiring about ppi at point of loan application and no mention of the cover may be available elsewhere (don't know if this is the case), possibly/most likely cheaper, is this not akin to miss-selling?0

Did you pay this PPI in with the loan monthly payment?.
Do not cancel this PPI this will get the loan reset without PPI and you could have the term extended and a higher apr.0
