Hi I'm a newbie so go easy on me guys and girls!
I'm 20 years old, living in London and have never had a bank account. I have worked as a self employed photographer working for cash in hand since I was 16.
However, now I would like to legally register my company (and pay taxes) and it makes sense to open a personal account and a business account as well.
I have recently registered on the electoral roll for the first time as well.
What would be the best bank to go to for someone who has just registered on the electoral roll and has never had any forms of credit? (I would like a Visa debit card with the ability to pay for things in shops)
Hope you guys can help!

I set up a halifax account when I was 14, so a fair few years ago. haha.
Never had any problems, always found they explain things well and they are open more than the other banks in our area.Hope this helps

You're going to get a huge range of opinions from here, I'm thinking it might be best to open your personal and business accounts with the same bank though to keep things simple so it will be a good idea to look at their merchant features too.
Anyway, I've had most success with HSBC and Lloyds TSB, I like the fact with Lloyds that they have 24/7 phone banking and you seem to always get someone in the UK. The only problem I've had with HSBC is the are slightly twitchy with cancelling my debit card (they flagged a payment to Capital One as fraudulent and sent a new debit card).0 -
The best bank in my experience would have to be Lloyds TSB :T0

You do not have to have your personal and your business accounts at the same bank (but this may, or may not be, your best option).
Banks might make you believe otherwise, in an effort to secure all your business.0 -
Business - HSBC
Personal TSB/RBS• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -
Thanks guys! Food for thought!
I'll let you know who I've gone with at the end of the month!0 -
