Travel insurance - engagement ring?

Travelling to USA with a (newly purchased) engagement ring. Is it possible to get special cover on travel insurance? I have direct travels standard annual insurance which covers personal possessions to £1,500. Their website states they are unable to increase limits.
Or is it covered under household insurance?

Try specifying it under your Personal Belongings insurance through your home insurance - make sure you ask the person on the phone what you're covered for and what the terms are as they can vary.

Generally cover for items is better on home insurance than travel insurance which is more for delays or illness.

I agree - there is uaually a single article limit on travel insurance - the highest I've seen for valuables is £750 - adding it onto your home insurance will give you 365 day cover and on a new for old basis and (from what I've seen of the c**p cover available online) a lower policy excess.

You may need a valuation - it depends on the company. You should also consider getting cover for unspecified all risks.

Travel insurance is not designed to cover valuables.

Your options really are the PP section of your home insurance or a dedicated jewellery policy. Personally, home insurance has always been a much more cost effective way to do it but certainly some praise the other option.

Travel insurance's real area of cover is in the medical side and to a lesser degree cancellation. Bagage cover really is rarely worth much more than the paper it is written on.
