Mira Escape shower temperature fluctuation problem

hi there had the shower about 3 years. the water goes from normal temperature then you hear a change in water pressure and it goes stone cold and then hear another change and it goes to correct temperature again. It can change every 10 seconds literally but can stay cold for up to 30 seconds. Mira want to send an engineer out but can anyone suggest any possible things we can do ourselves before we get a local plumber out. the hose isn't blocked. we've tried putting temperature from cold to hot and tried different settings on the showerhead with no success. Not impressed with Mira - we've already had to repair a leak and our previous mira shower wasn't exactly great but we thought we'd just been unlucky as they're not exactly cheap!

have just spoken to Mira who said the filter inside the unit may be blocked because of limescale and this should be regularly checked as part of normal maintenance along with cleaning the showerhead. On the front of the unit it says not to remove as nothing in there is suitable for DIY (or words to that effect). I'm angry at paying over £200 for a shower with a life expectancy of 3-4 years but can't get anywhere with their customer services.0

Thanks. I have a Triton Opal with the same problem, i'll check out to see if i can find a filter.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

Mira normally do pretty good showers.
Few q's,
1. how long have you had problem?!
2. Could you give any more info on the leak, a leak would account for drop in water pressure and hence drop in temps.
3. Why havent you let them send an engineer out?! Are they trying to charge you for it?!0 -
hi there yes there is a charge of £159 because it's out of warranty. the leak was a previous problem - it started as a drip and then became much worse out of the unit itself at the bottom. That was going to be £159 so we used a local plumber who replaced a valve or seal can't remember exactly. This problem has finished. we now have the temperature fluctuation problem It doesn't go from scalding hot to freezing it goes at normal temperature and then freezing then normal then freezing etc. the shower is between 3 and 4 years old.0

we've had the problem for about a week and kept hoping it would right itself0

Gosh, £159, you could fit a new shower!!
Are you getting any pressure drops anywhere else?!
Id be tempted to pop it open and have a look, its out of warranty anyway so doesnt make a difference if you do or dont. Dont know if you have the instructions but got a copy here http://www.mirashowers.co.uk/onlinecatalog/pdf/1060688_w2_f_mira_escape_(bw)_iug.pdf.
If you look at page 21/22 it shows some troubleshooting and if you go further down to pg 24/25 it shows you how to replace/clean the inlet filter. Should be esily done by a competent diyer, just make sure the electic supply is off, probably worth turning water off too!0 -
If that doesnt work, a safe bet would be the thermostat is kapput! Though it might be possible to replace the part (dont think it will be easy though), chances are itll be more economical to go for a replacement shower.0

My mira shower misbehaviours I checked the filter inside it wasnt blocked its easy to do.
Had a shower last night and you could see water pressue slowing, water getting hot then alarm on shower. We have to turn shower off and off again at wall socket isolator a couple of times before its working fine again.
Sometime we turn shower on and alarm goes off straight away saying it needs resetting
We have had shower for just under 3 years0 -
Well I am also having flow fluctuations with my three to four year old escape shower. The filter and shower head have been descaled but there is no improvement. I have contacted Mira today, spoke to a very polite but rather patronising woman who thought it was down to the inlet valve assembly having become faulty. I am no expert but the very title of this £36 part makes me doubtful?? Had she said it was down to a sensor, that would have sounded more convincing. Anyway, Mira want just short of an all in price of £140 to come out and I think that is pure extortion!! I told her that hoping the call was recorded. I think Mira trade on their well known name rather than the quality of their product. I shall now go out and buy a good old Triton shower, the last one having given me 16 years of faultless service until it did justifiably die.0
