Cancelling BT

Due to our financial situation, my wife and I are moving in with her parents, and I am currently sorting out the cancellation of all our utilities etc.

When we moved into our present rental house last September, I signed up to a special offer with BT where we got option 2 for the price of Option 1 (which were already on). I seem to recall being told that there was an 18 month contract for this. What would be the cost if I cancel now? Would we have to pay for the whole 12 months left on the contract??? I am hoping to pay as little as possible, as we are heavily in debt, and its getting worse living here - hence the move.

I think you should be able to cancel the line rental contract for a maximum of £18 as normal under BT's contract cancellation charges but will also need to pay the difference between Option 1 and Option 2 for the 12 months the special offer had to run (which is about 3.95/month)

After the Ist of May 2007 you want be able to buy yourself out for £18 any more !!!
Customers will have to pay the whole of any
remaining line rental for the 12-month minimum term plus a £5
administration charge when they wish to cease BT service . (Doesnt apply to moving customers staying with BT at new address. But a new minimum term starts.)

No it's not the difference, it's the full charge X the length left. 12 months = approx £179.40

    ouch! :(

Its not something we can afford to do right at the moment... is it worth asking BT to install a second line for us at my in-laws?

    No, that'd be £124.99!
Can you not take over the in laws line? Keep their telephone number & features? The only real difference is the bill would be in your name - they could pay you their part of the bill?
