It takes no more effort to rinse the bowl out and wipe it over as it does to rinse the sink out after doing the dishes. I've always used one and after I've done the dishes the bowl gets rinsed inside and out and stood in the half sink to drain and dry.

They hold less water than the sink takes to fill to a similar level so good for your water bill too!

My mother washes hers, dries it and puts it in its own special cupboard after use as she hates it being out on show.......I've not yet got to that point.

I used to have one but it just got in the way. I never thought of it as being dirty in anyway, it just got in the way.

I use it in the shed now for tipping compost into before I fill plant pots :D So I did re-use it :D

Not me! - parents use a bowl, but I don't. Luckily they have a double sink.

I do have a bowl, but only use it for handwashing delicate clothes.

We are having a new kitchen fitted soon, along with a granite 1.5 bowl black sink, fitted into a black work top. Don't think a bowl will look right.
But don't want to damage it or my glassware etc.

Does anyone have those mats for the bottom of the sink? Lakeland do them. Or can you get them else where?

Do have a dishwasher, but still seem to have some washing up to do, lunch boxes etc.

In the OP's shoes, I would agree never again to use a washing up bowl and cloths because they are "full of germs".

True but so is kissing and contact with other delicate parts of a husband's anatomy...!

    .
Well it does; because you have to take it out, rinse it all over and put it back in again. Whereas rinsing the sink out you just turn the tap on and swish.

If on my own I might well use one but with other people around the house who might not be so picky, that's when bits don't get rinsed down and yuk happens.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I don't like using a bowl personally, but it is how home economics at school taught washing up, it is lighter on water usage and you can use the water on the grass or similar during drought years like this one.

All our water here is stored for garden use though our septic system so i fell a little less guilty about it.
  • I use a bowl too. I've got a white ceramic sink and imagine that without it sharp knives etc would scratch it to bits. As others have said it's not difficult to give it a wipe down at regular intervals. Also you can rinse anything that very dirty down the side of the bowl keeping your water a lot fresher. Wouldn't dream of ditching it.

Bowl or sink is fine as long as it gets bleached, it doesn't matter, it's all down to preference.

I use to use a bowl but since the kitchen was renewed and a 1.5 sink fitted the bowl has been shut away somewhere. Now I pile any dishes into the main sink, some things may be rinsed or even wiped with tissues to get the thick of any mess off and then i wash everything in the 'half' sink one at a time.
So i'm only using half a sink of water.
