Update - dismissed after 2 days

Just want to thank every one for taking time to reply and thought I would let you all know of the final outcome. At the end of day 3 my daughter received a text from her manager advising her of a course she should attend on day 4. This she did ( this was not at the care home ) and once again by text received a further message informing her to come into work at 7 45am on day 5. On entering the building she was ignored by the home manager but the deputy manager asked her how she was and what happened on day 3 as she was unaware of 'the dismissal'. Not long after the manager proceeded to leave the building to go home on the SICK. The deputy approached the area manager who happened to be in that day and asked for confirmation re the situation. Her reply was, 'hey we all get sick sometime, no your'e not dismissed we are here to support you '.
How unprofessional is the care home manager firstly for communicating via text and secondly telling my daughter it was the area manager who wanted rid and would fight her corner. Seems to me his philosophy is do as I say not as I do.

Thank you cardix19 for posting an update. Thank goodness someone saw sense. The question is do we now give the manager the benefit of the doubt?

Thanks for the update, its always good to hear.

Will she have to work with this to ss er when he back from being on the sick.

Hopefully they can be adult enough to put it behind them and enjoy a decent working relationship.
    Hope she does well

Hmm. This manager has lost so much face here, sacking someone for going on the sick and not having it upheld and then going on the sick himself. Perhaps his management style has created a situation which puts him on the sick.

In the longer term it does not bode well that someone like this can become manager.

Absolutely excellent news and a triumph for common sense.

I have no doubt that all those who said or implied that your daughter was lying, that she was a malingerer who had brought it on herself, and the employer had had "a luicky escape" in being able to dismiss her so quickly and easily since she "clearly" had a record of this, will be along to apologise and add their congratulations momentarily.

    Waiting... waiting... no?

I agree, although I would add that it very much sounds like the manager here didn't have the authority or permission to dismiss, rather than that they didn't get it upheld. Or in fact told nobody what they had done.

My personal advice would be to, without going over the top, stick rather close to the deputy and the area manager - the manager may come back for "seconds".

Really pleased but a bit confused? Was it the same manager who dismissed her who sent a message about the course?

I think she needs to be v careful here about aligning herself too much with the deputy and area managers. Her manager is her manager and has authority (even if misused etc). I think she should take the initiative and ask for a chat to clear the air. In my opinion that would be the mature and professional thing to do. Maybe add that she is committed to the job - she has relocated etc, so wouldn't do anything to put it at jeopardy.

With regards to the manager going off sick - sorry, but there is a big difference between a long serving (presumably) employee coming in, probably sorting urgent stuff out, and going home sick and someone not coming in on day 3.

I hope all goes well for her and she enjoys her new role and location.

This is really great news. I'm glad someone there saw sense. Although your daughter may want to watch out for this manager though.

She'll have to watch out both Area Manager and the Deputy Manager who seems to be hitting on her. :p

Really pleased for your daughter and I am glad that her workplace saw commonsense.

I suffer from migraines and I know that if it is a true migraine it is absolutely impossible to go to work.

I hope she doesn't get too many of them in the future and enjoys working at her new job
