Where to go with a 6mth Old??

Hi,

We are after some suggestions as to where to go with our 6mth old in the UK.

We were thinking Cornwall or Wales but are open to anything really!

Can anybody recommend a Hotel/Cottage in the above places or even anywhere where it's Baby friendly

Not center parcs. A six month old doesn't care where it is. Choose somewhere you want to go.

Seriously, I'd save your money. All you be doing is nappy changing, bottle warming and rocking off to sleep in a different location.

Wait til baby is properly mobile. They're much more fun and easier to deal with, and can actually appreciate what's going on. I speak from experience. We drove a 3 month old to St Malo from Manchester. Not to be advised.

You don't want to be going to far with a baby in the car, no more than a couple of hours. I would get a cottage at least then when they are in bed you can watch telly.

Was amazing. Collected as many eggs each morning as we wanted from the coop, animals to see each day, play area, trampoline, and loads of sandy beaches a short drive away. Plus you get a tour of the dairy sheds and a ride on the farm tractor.

We intended to go back, but other holidays beckoned...maybe next year.

just pick a location, not too far away, i.e. 2-3 hours, where you want to go...

The other option is simply to stop at home, and relax. not all holidays are relaxing at all!

We stayed at Trevorrick farm near Padstow last year when our little one was 11 months, I'd recommend it but I think an older child would get more from it so keep in mind for next year maybe!

I'd say don't go too far and if you plan on doing much sightseeing / walking consider a back carrier. We were very glad we got our bush baby before going away when little one was 7 months.

We went to Torquay (sorry it's Devon not Cornwall) when my daughter was 9 months and stayed in a self catering cottage, it was good as I could wash her bottles in the kitchen and give her some meals there. Also plenty of room for her cot and we could stay in the living room after she went to sleep.

It was quite fun in Torbay as we went to Paignton Zoo and she loved seeing all the animals. Also lots of other attractions around - steam train, model village, Cockington Forge with walks and thatched houses, pretty harbours etc.

There were also lots of family friendly restaurants and pubs around that didn't mind you bringing a young child whilst you were dining.

We live about 4 hours away and stopped once to change her nappy and give her a feed. She slept for the rest of the time so it wasn't too bad.

Perhaps look for a cottage in an area where you'd find lots of family friendly places and attractions that you'd like to visit.

I'd say at nine months, she was just about getting interested in seeing things around her. Could you wait a couple of months 'til your baby is at that stage or are they interested in animals and other stuff etc now?

We all enjoyed the holiday and I didn't feel that it was awkward with a baby. It's nice just to get a change of scene. Just that there's a lot to pack in the car.

In Wales, perhaps I'd suggest BlueStone. Lots of nice lodges there - perhaps consider the Caldey lodge as it's all on one level with an open plan lounge and kitchen so you can keep an eye on your baby wherever you are in the house. Only thing is, it doesn't have a bath - only a wetroom, but maybe you could use the kitchen sink or a baby bath.

Other lodges are bigger and will have a bath, but are on two levels- some are upside down and they will provide a stairgate, but I liked being able to put my daughter to sleep in the bedrooom and know that she was on the same level and I could just peep at her if I needed to.

It's a fairly quiet holiday place if you like that sort of thing, no loud entertainment etc. A big pool and a centre with a ballpool etc and some baby sensory classes on in the day.

Surrounding area is quite nice. Tenby/ Saundersfoot are lovely with nice beaches. Folly Farm is nearby which is quite nice for adults and children. Lots of other things around too.

as others have said, choose the area and holiday that you want.
Hotels can be a bit awkward with a child so static caravan or lodge holidays maybe better, where baby can go to bed at normal time in a bedroom while you have a nice dinner etc.
Self catering would be better too as at 6 months you will prob be weaning and that would be easier in a self catering option, again like a static or lodge.
As for entertainment, book something that offers what you want - ie swimming, late night entertainment, pub, beaches, country walks etc
always look for places where you can hire highchairs and cots - someplaces you can hire buggies too.
