Anyone having trouble buying ingredients?

I have found this - I had a whinge about it a while back after trying to get arborio rice at Tescos. Two whole shelves of instant packet risottos with various flavourings, but no arborio or carnaroli.
My mum mentioned to me the other day she couldn't get jelly in any of her local shops any more! I must admit I use the value stuff and bung loads of chopped fruit in, but then my two are little and don't mind if it's red jelly every time. I havent noticed whether you can get other flavours. That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0 -
Well it seems I'm not alone in my quest for 'normal' ingredients
thanks for the suggestions and replies,I think I will have to set foot into the unknown of a health food shop, just to buy what used to be available everywhere
I really feel at a loss as to what will happen to our children,if the current trend for junk continuesthey no longer cook at school, certainly very few cook at home and everything comes pre peeled and chopped,I bet they wouldn't know what the thing looks like fresh
While I'm on the subject, does anyone know where you can buy rennet? I haver asked at all the supermarkets I have been in over the last couple of years, but they don't even know what it is,let alone stock it  I used to love junket as a child and would like to make it now.
Thanks again

Or ask your local cheesemaker"The happiest of people don't necessarily have the
best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."

I used to get rennet from my local chemists - I don't know if any would still stock it but it's worthwhile asking. I've also seen it in some supermarkets, but you do have to root for it!0

I thought that my local Tesco had stopped selling rissotto rice too but eventually found it with the dried beans, lentils etc-after I'd made a special trip to Asda to buy some!0

Thanks Thirzah, I asked one of the staff but they had no idea what I was talking about. I'll have a look with the lentils - they have that sort of fake health-food-shop aisle where everything is in beige packets..That man is richest whose pleasures are cheapest. Henry David Thoreau0

IF you have a store near you, Lidl's stock blocks of flavoured jellies.0
